A moment from an evening last summer. Moose have a flap of skin that hangs under their chin, called a “bell” or “dewlap.” Both males and females have them, but they’re usually bigger on the bulls. Scientists aren’t exactly sure what they’re for, but some think bull moose might use them during mating season to rub on cows and leave their scent.
