Google releases Android 17 beta 1
Digest more
Google has started rolling out the Android 17 Beta 1 update to eligible Pixel devices, with big changes for adaptive apps, media, and more.
Android 17 enables app handoff between devices and web, allowing users to resume tasks seamlessly and improving cross-device continuity within Google’s ecosystem.
Now Playing has a new home. Your settings, song history, and other features can be found in the dedicated app. You’ll be directed to the Play Store for the install. We know what the new icon looks like thanks to the stub already found on Pixel devices. The app will be: com.google.android.apps.pixel.nowplaying.
Google's Advanced Protection Mode may soon restrict apps using accessibility APIs to enhance security for high-risk Android users.
Google has just issued an updated Android distribution chart and it makes for an alarming read. The latest OS — Android 16 — was on just 7.5% of phones when the data was captured in December, while Android 15 is on 19.3% of phones, Android 14 on 17.9% of phones and Android 13 on 13.9% of phones.
